Germany is a participating country of EXPO 2020 in Dubai. As early as June 2016, Chancellor Angela Merkel confirmed Germany's participation and the construction of a German pavilion at EXPO 2020 in a letter to H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai.

The German participation in EXPO 2020 is also an expression of the close diplomatic and especially economic relations of the Federal Republic with the UAE. EXPO 2020 also offers an ideal opportunity to present Germany as an economic, research and innovation location. With the three sub-themes Opportunity, Mobility, and Sustainability under the main theme "Connecting Minds, Creating the Future", EXPO 2020 addresses key aspects of the economic and sustainability policy of the federal government under.
